The school our Class of 1950 attended was built in 1938 at a cost of $74,000.  Some of us who went to Karns Elementary School remember November 2, 1942, the day the "old" High School gym burned to the ground.  A new gym was not built until 1949.

Karns High School (1938)

A news Karns High School was built at the Byington Solway Industrial Park in 1981 at a cost of $7,000,000.   The picture of the new school (on the back cover) is appropriately from the Karns High School Annual of 2000, our 50th reunion year.  The Karns High School Crest, pictured on the annual cover, includes the name - Beavers - a name used by our school since 1914.  Addie Wood (2000) is the granddaughter of our LaNell Williams Wood (1950) and her husband Jim Wood.

In the 1950's the community voted to officially change its name from Beaver Ridge/Byington to Karns.
