STORIES OF INTEREST RELATING TO
BYINGTON, BEAVER RIDGE AND KARNS:

Karns High School - 1913 - 1914:

A "First Annual Announcement" of the Karns High School noted the address as Byington, Knox County, Tennessee.  The Fall Term was to begin September 2, 1913. Spring Term was to begin December 29, 1913.  Christmas Holiday was December 19-29.  The principal was Glenmore Garrett.  Adamas Phillips was supervisor of Agriculture, W.H. Collier taught Mathematics, English and Manual Training.  Miss Jennie Carter taught Domestic Science.  A complete four-year course of study was listed for a degree in Latin, English and Science or Manual Training, Agriculture and Home Economics.

"Students from a distance desiring to board can find accommodations in the community near the school.
         Tuition is free to all students of school age from Knox County, and those from other counties, or over twenty-one years of age, attending high school classes will pay tuition at the rate of one dollar per month.
        The citizens and patrons of the school will confer a favor by giving the Principal the names of boys and girls interested in attending school.
        Stables will be provided free of charge for those students riding or driving.
