Men of Affairs in Knoxville

Biographies of Influential Citizens

Published by Joe L. Baker and Stuart Towe, Knoxville Lithographing Co., 1917.  Transcribed by Billie McNamara.

Foreword

This volume is not an advertisement in any sense of the word. Quite to the contrary, it is offered for the benefit of those who desire to know more of Knoxville and the men who have had something to do with making the city what it is.

Its title -- Men of Affairs in Knoxville -- is self explanatory. The authors do not claim that all the men of affairs in this city are sketched within the covers of this effort, but we feel that the field is fairly well covered. There are good men in every community who are averse to any kind of publicity.

The primary effort of this publication is realized, we believe. We launched the movement to offer a reference book of this city's leading citizens for use in the school, the library, the university, the newspaper office and the home. Attention has also been given to the quality of binding, the printing and the make-up. How well we have succeeded is left for the reader to judge.
