History Of The Tower

High over the heads of hundreds of toiling students rises the Tower, the highest point of the edifice of learning.  For many years classes have come, and after three busy years, departed, leaving the Tower undisturbed with its blank faces looking toward the four winds of heaven.  But one year, as time rolled on , there came a class with more class spirit than usual. One brave and adventurous soul of the masculine persuasion determined to do a deed of unprecedented daring.  With much secrecy this young enthusiast climbed nearer heaven than he had ever been before and undauntedly decorated the Tower in his class colors.

Every year since then some brave young gentleman of the graduating class, fired by the example of his predecessor, has gracefully (?) ascended to the upper regions, and, at risk of breaking his precious neck, has artistically adorned the Tower of his beloved class colors.  In 1905, the fates were angry, and when the learned editor of The Voice, glorying in his position, sought to attain a higher level, he fulfilled the proverb, "Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall;" for this aspiring young man fell -- actually fell till he was suspended from the upper regions with pedal extremities dangling over the head of the instructor in world's events.

Finally history has come down to the class of '07, the latest and most improved product of the 20th century - Anno Domini  [Q.E.D.]  Class Spirit began to grow, like Jack's bean stalk, from the time the class was organized.  In a short time this enthusiasm found vent in consigning to oblivion the dismal color of '06, and '07 green and gold, began its eventful reign on the Tower.  A very presuming person belonging to the 9th Grade tried to act smart by breaking in the High School and painting out '07 with an audacious '08.  The faculty began to talk, but all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't keep from '07 from appearing again.  This time the higher powers were aroused, but in spite of everything '08 again presented itself to our indignant gaze. At last the sympathy of our superiors interceded for the class of '07; comprise was agreed upon, and the green and gold once again and for the last time legally resumed its high estate and since has reigned supreme.
