The second sanctuary of McCalla Avenue was occupied on April 1, 1927. The new building was completed July 16, 1927, and on Sunday, July 17, 1927, the Sunday School met at the old church for the last time. Those in attendance that day walked two by two, with the pastor, Rev. A. N. Hollis and the Sunday School Superintendent, W. L. Warters, leading the march to the present site. (Picture not available) On April 6, 1932, the church voted to build
a tabernacle next to the church. The cost was not to exceed $12,000.
The Tabernacle was to be used until such time as the church felt it was
financially able to resume planned construction of additional educational
space. The Tabernacle was to be erected by the unemployed men of
the church and community. |
