UNION MEMORIAL CEMETERY
Compiled and contributed by David Donahue
This cemetery is located on Union Road, off Everett Road, north of Kingston Pike and west of the Fox Den neighborhood. It is at a church known in 1997 as Grace Connection Church. In 1989 this was the location of the Church of the Redeamer. The Cemetery is owned by Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church which has since moved to another site. The cemetery is very beautiful and very well-maintained. The care is so good that there are no ground disturbances, no sunken spots, grass-less spots, or other indications of unmarked graves. A plaque on a brick pillar at the entrance to the church drive reads:
In honor of J. P. "Uncle Jim" Russell for his years of unselfish care of the churchyard.
Erected by a grateful community 1959.
Some graves are marked by numbered cement slab markers. The cemetery was recorded April 15, 1989. It was checked October 9, 1989 and updated January 1997.
A registry for this cemetery was compiled by W. R. Hunley in April 1990. At that time 313 persons were known to be buried in the cemetery, 57 of whom were unidentified. The registry was reviewed and notes are made where appropriate below.
