EASTERN STATE HOSPITAL CEMETERY
Compiled and contributed by David Donahue
This is a cemetery where patients of Eastern State Psychiatric Hospital (later Lakeshore Mental Health Institute) were buried. The cemetery is on Lyons View Drive on the north side of the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, which was later created on the same property. Since many of the patients who were buried here were indigent, most of the graves are marked only with numbers. The graves lie in two areas. The eastern most has straight numbered rows and numbered position stones. In the western part the rows are semicircular and positions are not as clearly indicated. Tombstones have been placed by the families of some of the patients. These tombstones are listed below. This cemetery was recorded in 1989.
