These hand-written entries were made in a pocket-sized diary given to Mr. Shields as an advertising promotion by Jno. Lewis, a representative of Cowan, McClung & Co. The front portion of the diary contained a calendar and CM&C's inventory. Only those entries that had names associated with them were transcribed. Several entries had such poor handwriting that it was hard to determine whether the entry was a name or just a word.
