MRS SCRUGGS WIDOW OF COUNCILMAN, DIES.

Mrs Lillie Scruggs widow of the late R.L. Scruggs former city councilman died of a heart seizure at her home 412 West Vine Ave. She was 75. Mrs Scruggs'  first husband Omar F Smith was killed by a train on Baxter Ave in 1923. she was a member of Euclid Ave Baptist Church. She leaves  three sons Dempster Smith. Chicago Arthur A. Smith Marion VA and R.E. Smith Memphis six daughters Mrs Nannie Duggan Lenoir City, Mrs P.O. Hall Rockwood, Mrs I. C. Hicks, Mrs May Underwood, and Mrs Mamie Courtney all of Knoxville. and Mrs. Lissie Maness Oakland CA. 46 Grandchildren 80 G-Grandchildren and one GGGrandaughter.  Services will be at at 2:30 PM tomorrow at Hawkins Funeral Home burial will be in the city cemetery there

MRS. ELVIRA SHARP - Mrs. Elvira Sharp was born November 11, 1873, died  August 14, 1944, age 70. She was married to Calvin Sharp about 1891. To  this union were born 10 children, 3 sons and 7 daughters. Four daughters and husband preceded her in death. She professed a faith in Christ when young and joined the Church at Oak Grove on February 1914. She was a devoted  mother. During her illness she called all of her children to her bedside and  asked them if they were all ready to meet her in heaven. We feel that she is at rest. Funeral was conducted by Elder T. G. Brantley and Elder Leonard White. She was buried in the Lynnhurst Cemetery.

ISAAC CALVIN SHARP - Isaac Calvin Sharp of Knoxville, Tennessee, born  December 18, 1887 passed away October 20, 1968. Survived by his wife Alberta  Sharp, 4 daughters, MIss Thelma Sharp, Mrs. W. D. Ward, Mrs. Ted Maples and Mrs. Dona Akers all of Knoxville, three sons Calvin, Jr. of San Diego, California; Jack of Farmington, New Mexico and Clarence of Knoxville; 3 brothers, Asa Sharp and Ambrose Sharp of Concord and Robert of Clearwater, Florida. He joined the church at Oak Grove in Union County at an early age and was very helpful in church and finance of church. Services at Rose,  October 22, 1968. Dr. Fred Schlafer officiating. Burial at Lynnhurst  Cemetery. Grandsons were pallbearers.

SHIFLET,  HENRY (DINK) HARRISON  -  age 96 of Emory Rd., Rt. 2, Blaine, Tn., passed away at the family home Wednesday morning.  He was a retired employee of Fulton-Sylphon Co. and a member of Cedar Ford Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Delilah  Shiflet, and daughters, Mrs. Hazel Long  and  Mrs. Mamie Chamberlain.  Survivors: Son Charlie  Shiflet of Blaine; daughters, Mrs. Iva Jane West and  Mrs. Delilah Petree, both of Blaine; Mrs. Evelyn Bogue   of Kokomo, Ind.; Mrs. Nadine Williams of El Paso, Texas; Mrs. Mandy Turner of Whitesburg, TN; 32 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren.  Services 2 p.m. Friday, Block Springs Baptist Church.  Rev. Ralph Clevenger, Rev. Frank Anderson and Rev. Bobby Melton officiating.  The body will lie in state one hour before services.  Interment Luttrell Cemetery.  Pallbearers: Grandsons.  Honorary pallbearers: Bruce Jarnigan, John Mitchell, Burt Mynatt, Dr. Travis Morgan, Dr. A.D. Simmons, Howard Collette.  The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at McCarty Mortuary.

SMITH, JAMES HUNTER - age 84 Thurmer Rd passed away 6:15 am Monday. Member of Cherokee Lodge No 728 F&AM.  Survivors: daughter Mrs. O T Nichols, Knoxville. William H. Smith,  Sweetwater sister Mrs. Margaret Hunt, Frankford ,IN brothers Lon Sacramento, CA; Roger Ft Worth TX; Sam Retledge,TN The body will remain at Brewer funeral home where services will be held at 2pm Wed. the Rev Roy Collins will officiate. Interment in Clark Grove Cemetery. Blount Co Masons will serve as pallbearers and will have charge of the services at the grave.

Concord May 14,1891-  William H. Smith an aged and highly respected citizen of this community, after a brief illness died at his late residence one mile East of Concord at 3 O'clock yesterday aged 76 years. The funeral exercises will be held at Pleasant Forest Church tomorrow at 10:O'clock Rev. S.B.West officiating, after which the remains will be interned in the old burying grounds at that place. Mr Smith won the reputation of being a good man, a useful citizen and a most obliging and kind neighbor. He leaves to morn his lost a wife a number of children, grand and great grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends.

THORNHILL, GILBERT A. - age 98, of Mascot, passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 1998. A Christian in belief, in earlier years he attended Mascot Bible Holiness Church. Preceded in death by wife, Estella Patterson Thornhill; daughters, Christina Mills and Hazel Van Dyke King. Survivors: sons, Lester and Jimmy Thornhill of Mascot, Clarence Thornhill of Knoxville and Glenn Thornhill of Spartenburg, S.C.; daughter, Mae Lowery of Mascot; several nieces and nephews; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. The family and friends will meet at Roseberry Cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday for a 2 p.m. graveside service with Rev. Sam Bell of Mascot Church of God. Pallbearers: grandchildren. Music will be by Carroll Leath and Southern Gospel Girls. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at McCarty Mortuary, 4004 Holston Drive.
