Mark Cotherman --
Sunday, 3 October 1999, at 2:22 a.m.
Searching for information on my grandfather, Joseph Lee Rose. I have absolutely no information except a birthdate of Apr 2, 1886 in Knox county, TN and that his father's name may have been Henry Rose. Apparently my grandfather's parents died when he was young, and I have been told that he lived with his aunt somewhere in Wisconsin after their death. I believe he might have taken the last name Cotherman from his aunt's husband. Any information would be appreciated.
Huffaker genealogy
Jason
Huffaker -- Sunday, 3 October 1999, at 4:21 a.m.
I live in Knox Co. and I'm very interested in my family's impact on the area. Recently, a old locate church had a Fall Festival. At the festival, a history of Asbury Methodith Church was provided. To my surprise, the church was founded by a man named Miles W. Huffaker in 1855. And two of the church's first trustees were James Huffaker and William Thomas Huffaker (which is my grandfather's name). My grandfather's father died several years ago. Therefore, my ability of learning about generations ago is limited. Anytime I investigate I am always lead to a place called Seven Island in Knox Co. Could you please assist me in tracing my roots.

Charles & Nancy LAIR "near Knoxville"
Linda Arnold -- Thursday, 7 October 1999, at 7:49 a.m.
Charles and Nancy (?) LAIR (sometimes spelled LEAR, LAYER etc.) Charles LAIR was b. c1760 PA married Nancy (?) b. 1770 PA. They were married about 1795 or before, perhaps in PA.
Eldest son: Samuel W. LAIR b. 4 Feb 1796 VA or East Tennesee. Next known child, Jane LAIR was b. 1801 "near Knoxville" TN. John Austin LAIR b. 1803 KY; Charles LAIR Jr. b. 1804 TN; Peter LAIR b. 1807 TN; William L. LAIR b. 1808 TN and Catherine "Kate" LAIR b. 1811-12 TN.
Samuel W. LAIR, served War of 1812 from Tennesee, in Capt. Thomas Ramsey's Regiment, 1st W.L. Rifles. He m. 12 Nov 1816 in Knox or Cocke Co., TN Elizabeth MILLER b. March 1796 Jefferson Co., TN. In 1817, they went to Troy, Madison Co., IL staying until 1824 when they went to what would become Macoupin Co., IL where he died 1870.
Charles LAIR Sr. and family, consisting of all the above named children were in Macoupin Co., IL by the 1830 Census. The family remained in Macoupin Co., IL throughout the rest of their lives. Charles LAIR Sr. is said to have visited his father and/or his only brother sometime after his arrival in IL. Charles was last listed 1840 Census as 70-80 yrs. Nancy was 80 yrs. old in the 1850 Census in Macoupin Co., IL
I have been working on this LAIR FAMILY for 30 years, with a book in progress of the known descendants of Charles & Nancy LAIR of Macoupin Co., IL. Apparently this LAIR Family has no direct connection to the LAIR Family of Lairs Station, KY nor to the Matthias and Ferdinando LAIR Families who took the same migration route from Pennsylvania.
Any information on this family is greatly appreciated. Will exchange.
Re: Uriah Akers
Linda Arnold --
Thursday, 7 October 1999, at 12:42 p.m.
I, too am interested in Uriah AKERS. Is Uriah AKERS of Knox Co., TN the same as Uriah AKERS of Botetourt Co., VA?
My records show Uriah AKERS entered land 1767 on the Roanoke. His father was Simon AKERS who d. 1748. They were of the "Great Lick" Community. Simon AKERS estate was appraised by Erwin Patterson, Joseph Robinson and John Mason. His sons were William, Thomas and Uriah AKERS. He had a daughter named Ruth. His wife was Mary.
The Botetourt County TOSH Family was of the "Great Lick" Community also as early as 1743. TOSH & AKERS were mention in several common cocuments. How does this TOSH Family tie to the AKERS Family? They seem to have "followed" each other from VA thru TN into IL.
I tried to send you a message to your e-mail address today, but it was returned. I would like to exchange information with anyone having information on Uriah AKERS or the AKERS Family of Botetourt Co., VA. Please contact me at lara93@gateway.net

KNOX COUNTY MYSTERY ALBUM!
Rose-Anne &
Billie -- Friday, 29 October 1999, at 5:48 p.m.
Hi Knox County Researchers! We've posted the contents of a Mystery Photo Album on the Knox County, TNGenWeb site:
http://www.knoxcotn.org/knoxphoto/mystalbum/
This photo album was recently discovered among the rubble of an old house in East Knox County, Tennessee. The album, dated 1866, is filled with photos, names, and genealogical tidbits. Sadly, most of the identified photo slots are empty, and most of the existing photos are unidentified! Many photos are from the 1860-1875 period.
Here's a list of surnames and locations from both the album pages and the photos. Please check this page and see if you can help us identify anyone.... Our goal is to reunite photos of Gramma, Grampa, and everyone's favorite aunt with their proper descendants -- who can provide documentation of relationship and show genuine interest in their preservation.
