Jesse Simpson Sr. was one of 12 children of John and Hannah Simpson. Jesse Sr. married Mary Giffin in VA and came to TN in ca 1818. They were members of the old Lebanon Presbyterian Church, with their home being just across the river on the French Broad side. Family members petioned ca Sept 1834 to organize a church on their side of the river. This church was called New Prospect and was located orginally aobut one-quarter of a mile northwest of the present location of church property on land then owned by Judge S. O. Houston.

Jesse and Mary's children are as follows:
1.Sanford Simpson m Hopey Poston and is buried at Island Home Baptist Church.

Re: Granny Lewis Creek?
Linda Kirk -- Tuesday, 9 October 2001, at 9:39 a.m.

Hi, Mona. Are you related to the Kirk family whose ancestors came from Greene Co. to Knox Co. by way of John Kirk? His brother, Henry, also moved to Knox Co. We have a list of siblings who were probably half-siblings, since John appears to have been married more than once. One child, John Wesley Kirk, is my husband's ancestor, and I'm trying to verify that he came from this family. Margaret Kirk married a Beets/Beats. In the 1880 Casey Co. KY US Census record, "Dock Beets" was living with J.W. Kirk, who claimed he was his nephew. In 1863, J.W. had married Bettie Deavers/Devors, but she apparently died before the 1880 census. I'm trying to verify that Margaret and JW were siblings and in this family. Margaret was married in 1839, so she doesn't show up on the 1840/50 Knox Co. census records in the John Kirk family.

I would appreciate any info you could give me on the Kirk family, if there is a connection. Also, we have been told that John Kirk married Mary Polly Hartley and also Hannah (?). In the 1850 and forward census records, I also find "Amelia" or "Jane" (and also an "Amelia Jane"). Is this a third wife?

Thanks. Linda

Widner/Dickey
J Helsel -- Wednesday, 10 October 2001, at 2:32 p.m.

I am looking for an information on the Widners of Tennessee. Especially the family of William and Louise Widner and or any of their offspring; Bell, Nancy, Zola(my maternal grandmother) and Leonidas.
Also, I would like to find any information on James Dickey of Tennessee. He and Zola had 2 children, Curtis and Mary Edith, (my mother). My maternal grandmother passed during childbirth from Measles at the age of approx. 23. James then married a woman named Hattie. He also married Martha who had 3 children, Virene, Josephine and Bob. Whether these were offspring of their marriage, I do not know. My mother was born in Meigs county, but I don't know where my maternal grandmother or grandfather died. Knoxville or Tullahoma, I am not sure, or it could have been elsewhere in Tennessee. I know of an uncle, Lee; a cousin of my mother, Ola Childress, and her mother Dollie Widner. There was also a Dr. Widner from Oklahoma, my mother worked for when she left Tennessee for Oklahoma in the late 30's, I would speculate.

sharon cox -- Friday, 12 October 2001, at 6:43 p.m.

Hello eva, I attended both Moses and Tyson. I attended alittle bit later than the years you mentioned, but it is nice to hear about my old grade school. I attended in 1968-70. I later transferred to Maynard elementary when they closed moses down.

My principle was Mr Edwards. Some of the teachers were, Ms Scott, Ms Johnson, Ms Long. I also remember the recreation room they had there to. We used to have a ball after school.

Sorry I couldnt' be of more help. As for Tyson. I went there 75-78. I really enjoyed that school too. My principal was Mr Bosse. Than Emma Jean Huddleston

Good luck with your search
