The Garners moved from Rutherford Co TN in 1851. See "Garner of Texas" A personal History by Timmons or there is a published book of brief bios of Vice Presidents. Basically, An Obediah Garner married Eleanor Nance in Henry Co VA in 1797 and moved to TN. Eleanor was the daughter of John Nance who around 1800 moved to Jefferson Co TN. The Garners first son [ Jun 1810] was John Nance Garner. He married Rebecca Walpole. He died in 1847. John Nance Garner II was born around 1843.

Mary Kay Kirks -- Wednesday, 11 October 2000, at 12:43 p.m.
Hello:
I am trying to find information about my mother's family. Her father's name was Andrew Jackson "Jack" Ford. He was born in Lenoir City, Tennessee and died in Knoxville, Tenn., about 1941,42, or 43 maybe. His birthplace (listed on my mother's birth certificate says was Roane Co., Tenn.) Her mother's name was "Lizzie" Haygood Ford. Her father left the family of 7 children when my mother was an infant, and remarried and had more children. So, we know very little about the father. I cannot find anything out about my mother's father or mother's family history. Her mother did remarry to a Charlie Parker possibly in Kentucky. If you have any idea's of where to look, I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thank you!

Hi, Mary Kay - sorry, but I do not have your Andrew Jackson "Jack" Ford in my database. Most of the Fords I have are those of earlier generations. Both www.FamilySearch.org and www.ancestry.com have a lot of Ford information. Also, the Fords, Bondurants, and Maxeys were French Huguenots and there is a good place to read about there beginnings in America at www.huguenot-manakin.org/Sims.htm
I am sending you an e-mail of the Fords in my husband's line. If you find anything interesting, let me know.

Iredell community in 1790s Knox Cty

In a journal from the 1790s and early 1800s, I read about a community in Knox Cty, TN known as "Iredell." I believe that this was located south of the Holston, toward Maryville.
I would like to know more about the Iredell community...where it was, why it was so-named, and some of the people who lived there. Is that area still identified as Iredell? Did it have some connection to Iredell Cty. of NC?

Steve I think I have some info on the George you are looking for. My ggg-grandfather was Robert Smith. Robert had 3 sons and 3 daughters. George b. 1791 John R. b. 1793 Adam Franklin b. 1796 (my gg-grandfather) If you check the 1850 census, you will see that John was Family # 1406, living next to his father, Robert; Adam was Family # 1354; George was # 1363. Living next to George was his son, George W., Family # 1364; and 2 houses away was his son Robert, Family # 1367. Look at the names of the children. Adam Smith: Melinda Emerline, Mary Jane, George Franklin, Archie Preston, Eliza Ellen, Elbert Sevier (g-grandfather), Robert Alexander, Martha C., and Wyatt A. John R.: Mary M., Sarah B., Elizabeth A., Margaret L., Calvin, Angeline, James, Columbus, Catherine, and Rufus S. I have a copy of the will of Robert Smith which not only lists the above sons, it gives the name and location (description) of their farms, which were willed to them. The will consists of 16 hand written pages and is available from the Knox Co. Archives, (Administrative/Executive Settlement, VOL. 11 pages 70-74,89-94,270-271, VOL12 pages 28, 66-67; Robert Smith; date, 7/1851). I can try to send you a copy, but beginning today I start a new business for the christmas season, so this is probably my last chance to work on genealogy until after the first of the year. Barry F. Dana, I don't know if this will help you or not but since I am searching for my Cheatham (or Chittum) history I have ran across a Joseph Cheatham in Izard County Arkansas census and burial, with wife Eliza. You might check the census records there. I believe it was the 1870 or 1850 census. I feel there is probably some connection to my Cheatham family but am not sure where, but my gggrandmother was named Elizabeth Cheatham here family is from TN, KY, VA or SC or all of the above, and ended up in Arkansas during the Civil War. Anyway, this may help, if you need more information I can look it up in my records. Hope it helps, Jan

(Jim) A. Graves -- Wednesday, 25 October 2000, at 1:59 p.m.
I have a copy of Thomas Howe R. Neal's Book that was presented to my Dad, Raymond M. Graves, in 1977. I have a scanner which I can scan sections of the book and e-mail to you. I have to try a sample scan to see how well it comes out. Let me know what information you are seeking and we can focus on that for the first try.
Also, I have traced our family line back to Johannes Sabastian Graff by information contained in my Grandparents, Albert N. and Maggie Graves family Bible and other sources such as Thomas Neal's book and the Internet which may help you in any names your are looking for.

Runnels/Reynolds, James, According to family info James Runnels was born in Knox County, TN in 1818. From then until late 1830's we have lost trace. He shows up in San Augustine County Texas in 1840's where he marries Eliza Ann Jessup. He is listed in 1860 census in Limestone County Texas. By 1880 he has moved to Gonzales County Texas and on this census states his father was born in VA. and mother in Ga. If anyone knows anything of this family I would really be appreciative.

Thank you Donna, perhaps they were in Morgan for a brief time. Geo William Fagan, his son Ambrose Francis Fagan a brother John Fagan and Ambrose Daniel Fagan were in Knoxville. Ambrose Francis Fagan son of George is buried Calvary Cem. Knoxville. Ambrose F. Fagan's wife Elizabeth (Mankel) Fagan is buried in same area. The large monument in Cal.(as you drive in on your right) has Geo Wm Fagan's name on it and date of birth no date of death. Large group of Fagan's buried Calvary. George Wm. Fagan's daughter Elizabeth Georgiana Fagan (Kinnane) is buried Calvary, I have the obit. but the grave marker is gone. Elizabeth Georgiana Fagan was my father's grandmother, he was young when she died but he did remember her. Elizabeth G. Fagan had two sister, Mary Ellen mar: Donohoe and Annie mar: O'Connor.
Ambrose Francis Fagan son of George W. Fagan was married to Elizabeth Mankel of Knoxville both buried Calvary.
I will check Morgan Co. to see if I can find more. These Fagan's are in the Knoxville City Directories they are found on the census and Geo Wm Fagan died in Knoxville 1893, McClung happened to have that.
Do you know these Fagan's? May I ask why you suggested Morgan Co.? Thank you so much for responding. Ann Poe

Bart MILLIGAN -- Bell's Campground Cem.
Linda Oatman -- Monday, 30 October 2000, at 10:59 a.m.
I'm trying to locate more information about BART MILLIGAN. He died 4 Oct 1907 "at his home on Phillips street beyond the western limits of the city [Knoxville]." I am told he is probably buried in Bell's Campground. No death certificate seems to exist for Bart, either in Knox County records nor in Nashville archives. His previous addresses were on Boyd Street (per 1906 City Directory), Hannah Ave. (1902 City Directory), Dora Street (1897-1901 City Directories). Can ANYONE give me more information about burials in Bell's Campground, its proximity to these streets, the proximity to Bearden, whether Bearden may have had city records back then.
