I'm embarrassed to follow Billie's long list of accomplishments, so let's

suffice it to say that I am an ex-Realtor by profession and a stay-at-home

mom by choice.

I lived most of my first 30 years in and around the Alice Bell, Spring Hill,

and Holston communities in Knox County. The primary surnames from the Knox

County area that I am researching are BRIMER, HOUSEHOLDER, O'BRIEN, AULT,

RUTHERFORD, & McGHEE.

Marjorie! Never be embarrassed! You were my neighbor! We'll talk --

privately <g>....

My cousin on the Acuff line is researching Aults -- Nancy Cole

<ncole@coffey.com> -- be sure to get in touch with her. Hers lived around

where Macedonia Church is now (across from the Burlington Post Office), if

I'm remembering correctly.

Brimers -- lots of them in Jefferson County, but I didn't know of Knox

County ones....thanks for the edification!

Isn't it fun being on a small list right now? We can respond to everyone

for a while!!! I hope the list gets busy enough to keep us all thinking

very soon, though!

McMillans lived in the area where I went to school from the 4th to 8th

grades. For those who are new to Knox County research, the McMillans

settled in the part of Knox County once known as Academia (you won't find

that on modern maps!). I haven't personally done work on the Houstons, but

I did do a little dabbling on the Armstrongs a few years ago. My elusive

McCombs ancestor lived practically in the back yard of all the Armstrongs

along the Holston River, so I thought maybe he came here with them.

Did you go to Central? My mama did. I've got one of Miss Nanie Hicks'

books on Smithwood and Kesterwood areas. I've also got a book about the

Gibbs family. I'm trying to get both of those transcribed for Mizz

Rose-Anne's Knox County Web site.

In some of the stuff my mama bought from an estate, we got old photos of

Tarver family members. I can't recall all the collaterals and details, but

I think they lived in North Knox County. I'd like to find a happy home for

these. If you're connected to the Tarvers, please write to me personally.

Hi, Thanks for the warm welcome!

I am still looking for family related to my Great Grandfather John Louis

Kelly born 4/4/1876. His Marriage License says his parents are J.M.

Kelly and Elizabeth Duncan. His Death Certificate says his parents are

John L. Kelly and Elizabeth Duncan. I have not been able to locate his

parents. The story that my Grandmother was told is that they lived on a

plantation in or near Knoxville. Know that he had a sister named Mae.

They were a "well to do" family with servants. John ran away at the age

of 14 and as far as we know never contacted his family again. He

married Mabel Cosen and they had 9 children in 9 different states. He

eventually settled in California and that is where he is buried.

Thank you, Patti

I'm searching for info on the HOOD and SWAN families

that lived in Knox Co. TN in the late 1700s to the mid-1800s.

I'm especially interested in information on John Bain HOOD

who was a publisher/editor in Knoxville (he was the son of

Robert and Elizabeth HOOD of Greenville, Greene Co. TN)

and Margaret Jane L. SWAN b. 1816 (probable daughter

of George SWAN and Elizabeth GRAHAM). Margaret had

a brother named James Denny SWAN, b. 1805 who

married Isabella G. HOOD and died in 1862. He's buried

in Faragut TN. Margaret married Isabella's brother, Daniel

Ragan HOOD and they moved to Cherokee Co. AL in 1845.

Daniel and Isabella were children of Nathaniel HOOD and

Abigail RAGAN. Nathaniel was the brother of John Bain

HOOD, and he lived in Maryville, Blount Co. TN.

Nathaniel had another son named Rev. Nathaniel HOOD

b. 1804. He moved to AL after the Civil War.

Any "cousins" out there?

Hi,

I'm David Bentley live in Glasgow, Missouri and am researching the FRISTOE,

LOVELL surnames in Knox Co.

Rev. Robert Fristoe b. 1751 Stafford Co. Va. married Elizabeth Lovell in

Knox Co. Tenn. ??

Had son Thomas Fristoe b. 1795, Knox Co. Tenn. He married Nancy Jackson in

Tenn.??

I have been at this genealogy stuff only since my retirement last year. I

too am fortunate in that much of the work has been done for me by my dad and

sister, but I am the first, in family, to have computerized the information

and used the Internet for searches.

One of our goals has been to find Rev. Robert Fristoe's and Elizabeth

Lovell's burial places. It has been a mystery for years.

Hoping to solve this someday.

Thanks Marjorie!! I will take a closer look at Anderson County. I did look
through the 1880 census and saw all of the Duncan's there but without "Kelly" its
hard to make the connection and my Grandmother is adamant about her father, John
Kelly being born in Knoxville.
